CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — The City of Clarkesville officially has its next city manager.
The Clarkesville City Council voted Monday night, July 13, to hire Jason Streetman as the city’s new city manager. Streetman will remain with the City of Sky Valley through July 31 before beginning his new position in Clarkesville on Aug. 3.
For Streetman, accepting the position wasn’t something he had been actively pursuing.
“I really wasn’t looking for a job,” he said.
Instead, the opportunity came through a mutual acquaintance who let him know Clarkesville was searching for a new city manager following the retirement of Keith Dickerson.
After learning about the opening, Streetman began researching the community. That research quickly became personal.
“My wife and I lived in Clarkesville for about five years,” he said. “So we had a connection there.”
That familiarity with the city, combined with conversations with people he knows in the area, convinced him the position was worth exploring.
“It seemed like a good opportunity,” Streetman said. “I talked to my wife about it, the timing was right, and so I submitted my résumé.”
The hiring process included multiple interviews with city officials.
“They called me for an interview, and we met a couple of times,” he said. “It just felt right.”
Now, with the official vote behind him, Streetman says he’s eager to get started.
“I’m excited,” he said. “I’m ready to go to work.”
Although he’ll continue serving Sky Valley through the end of July, Streetman plans to begin transitioning into his new role immediately, including attending Monday night’s Clarkesville council meeting before officially taking office.
Streetman also emphasized the importance of building relationships within the community, including maintaining open communication with local media.
“I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
Beginning Aug. 3, Streetman will take over the day-to-day management of city operations, working with the mayor and council to oversee municipal services, staff and future projects.
For a city he once called home, Streetman says the opportunity represents both a professional challenge and a chance to reconnect with a community that already feels familiar.
