The Cornelia City Commission will consider a proposed speed bump on Williams Street, improvements to the city’s reservoir and agreements with Habersham County during its next meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
The commission will hold a public hearing on a request to install a speed bump on Williams Street. Residents will have an opportunity to comment on the proposal before commissioners consider how to proceed.
Under old business, commissioners are scheduled to revisit Ordinance 06-26-01, an amendment to the city’s zoning ordinance.
Several items are listed under new business, including an engineer’s recommendation for the Reservoir Improvement Project. The agenda does not identify the recommended contractor or disclose the proposed cost of the work.
Commissioners will also consider an amendment to Cornelia’s animal control agreement with Habersham County and a separate intergovernmental agreement with the county concerning E911 radios.
The commission is expected to issue a proclamation recognizing Recovery Month, an annual observance intended to promote awareness of mental health and substance-use recovery.
Other business includes approval of minutes from the commission’s July 7 meeting and the city manager’s monthly report for July.
The meeting will include a public forum. Those wishing to address the commission must come to the podium to be recognized, and comments will be limited to three minutes. According to the agenda, the forum will be the public’s only opportunity to speak about items scheduled for consideration.
Commissioners are expected to enter an executive session near the end of the meeting to discuss personnel. No vote may be taken during the closed portion of the meeting, although the commission could return to open session afterward to take action.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Cornelia City Hall, located at 181 Larkin Street. The meeting is open to the public. The city lists the meeting on its official events calendar.
