Community Invited to Celebrate the Life of Yaretzi Romero Cantu Torres

The community is invited to gather at Raider Stadium on Aug. 23 to celebrate the life of Yaretzi Adelaida Romero Cantu Torres, a Habersham Central High School student and varsity soccer player remembered for her joyful spirit, caring heart and ability to light up a room.

The Celebration of Life will begin at 6 p.m. Yaretzi’s family is asking everyone who attends to wear pink in her honor.

Yaretzi, 15, of Cornelia, passed away Thursday, Aug. 13. She was born Oct. 27, 2010, in Hall County.

Her family remembers her as a bright and outgoing young woman who was funny, fearless and never shy. She loved to dance, was often the life of the party and had a natural ability to make people smile. Wherever she went, she brought energy and joy with her.

A sophomore at Habersham Central and a member of the Class of 2029, Yaretzi was known and loved by classmates and friends throughout the school community.

Soccer was her passion. She proudly played for the Habersham Central varsity soccer team and also played with LSA in Gainesville. Whether she was on the field or spending time with friends, her family said Yaretzi gave her all to the people and activities she loved.

Those closest to her also remember the heart behind her outgoing personality. Yaretzi genuinely cared for others and had a way of making people feel welcomed and loved. Her many friends carry their own memories of her laughter, humor, dancing and the happiness she shared.

Yaretzi’s family hopes the Aug. 23 gathering will give relatives, friends, classmates, teammates and community members a place to come together, share memories and talk about the good times they experienced with her.

Above all, the family wants Yaretzi’s friends and everyone who loved her to know how much their support, prayers and love mean during this difficult time.

The family is also inviting friends, teammates and community members to contribute photographs of Yaretzi for her memorial tribute. Photos may be uploaded through the family’s Tribute Slides page.

Yaretzi is survived by her parents, Claudia and Scott Torres and Miguel Romero; her siblings, Darla Torres, Scotty Torres and Riley Torres; her grandparents; and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her cousin, Cristian Gaona.

Additional service arrangements will be announced. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitfield Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, in Demorest.

The public is invited to a celebration of life ceremony for Yaretzi on August 23, 2026 at Raider Stadium. Please wear pink. (Photo submitted)
