Demorest Council To Discuss Water Meters, Animal Control Transportation Funding, Victor Anderson

The Demorest City Council will hold a work session and regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 1, with discussions expected to cover animal control, transportation funding, water meter replacement and probation services.

Both meetings will take place at the Demorest Municipal Conference Center, located at 250 Alabama Street. The work session begins at 6 p.m., followed by the regular City Council meeting at 7 p.m.

The work session will open with recognition of State Rep. Victor Anderson, who has been named Legislator of the Year by the Georgia Municipal Association. The city will also issue a proclamation recognizing Piedmont University’s 129th birthday.

Council members will then discuss a proposed first amendment to an intergovernmental agreement concerning the administration and enforcement of animal control provisions. Tim Sims and City Manager Mark Musselwhite are scheduled to present the item.

Brad Day and Mark Musselwhite will lead a discussion concerning an application to the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank. The council will also hear from Fletcher Holliday and Musselwhite regarding the Iron Ore Zone.

Another agenda item concerns the replacement of city water meters. Chris Cornell, Mark Musselwhite and Bryan Popham are scheduled to present that matter.

The council will also review options for probation services, including an intergovernmental agreement with the Town of Alto and a proposal and professional services agreement with CRSA. Musselwhite and City Attorney Sam Lovell are listed as presenters.

A proposed retirement ordinance will return for its second reading.

Most of those subjects also appear on the agenda for the 7 p.m. regular meeting. The council will additionally consider approval of its August meeting minutes and receive the city manager’s report and a review of city financials.

The regular meeting includes two opportunities for public comment—one near the beginning and another near the end of the meeting. Speakers are asked to limit their comments to two minutes.

The council may enter an executive session during either meeting if needed.

Residents requiring reasonable accommodations to participate should contact City Clerk Megan Chastain at least five business days in advance. She may be reached at Demorest City Hall or by calling 706-778-4202.
