Shelley A. Tullis has won the Republican primary for the Habersham County Commission District 2 seat, defeating Andrea Harper in Tuesday night’s Regional Primary election.
According to unofficial results from the Habersham County Board of Elections, Tullis received 4,052 votes, or 58.5%, compared to Harper’s 2,874 votes, or 41.5%.
Results are currently unofficial. Tullis said she was relieved the long campaign season had finally come to an end.
“I’m glad so I can breathe,” Tullis said with a laugh. “If you had seen me at the FFA banquet, I was biting my nails, and I’m not even a nail-biter.”
Tullis also shared a personal moment from election night involving her family. Her father called shortly after the victory with what she described as a realization that gave him serious bragging rights.
“My dad just called me. He says, ‘I think I’m the only person in the world right now, or the only person around right now that can say that I got two kids that’s county commissioner and one that’s a mayor,’” Tullis said.
Tullis said her brother, Chris Ausburn, also serves as a county commissioner in Banks County.
“That’s what my dad’s after,” she said. “He’s just happy at the moment.”
With the election now behind her, Tullis said her top priority as commissioner will be addressing growth in Habersham County.
“Slow growth,” Tullis said when asked about her primary goal in office. “My number one thing is to slow the growth down and get it under control.”
District 2 was one of two county commission races on the ballot in Habersham County during the 2026 Regional Primary election.
