GBI Arrests Mount Airy Man on Child Exploitation Charges

A man from Mount Airy, Georgia has been arrested and charged following an investigation into the distribution of child sexual abuse material, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Adrian Machuca, 26, of Mount Airy in Habersham County, faces two counts of sexual exploitation of children.

Authorities say the investigation began after the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit received three CyberTipline reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The reports involved the alleged distribution of child sexual abuse material.

The investigation ultimately led to Machuca’s arrest in Habersham County.

Machuca was taken into custody Tuesday, April 21, and booked into the Habersham County Jail. The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.

Officials said the case is part of an ongoing effort by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which operates within the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit. The task force works to identify individuals involved in the production and distribution of child sexual abuse material and to protect children from online exploitation.

The ICAC program, created by the U.S. Department of Justice, was established in response to the growing number of children and teens using the internet, as well as the increase in online predators and the spread of exploitative material.

Anyone with information about child exploitation cases is encouraged to contact the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit at 404-270-8870 or submit a tip through the NCMEC CyberTipline at Cybertipline.org. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), online through the GBI website, or by using the See Something, Send Something mobile app.
