Laverne Griffin McClure

Laverne Griffin McClure, age 85, of Lula, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

Born on April 11, 1941, in Asheville, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Alton and Dixie Lee Garrison Griffin.

Laverne cherished her family above all else, with a special devotion to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She found great joy in spending time with them, often expressing her love through home-cooked meals. Affectionately known as “Grandma” by all who knew her, she was deeply loved and respected within her community. In her leisure time, Laverne enjoyed camping and gardening alongside her husband, as well as canning and making homemade jams and jellies. She was also a dedicated, long-time member of Lula Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Andrew McClure; daughter, LaDonna McClure Irvin; sister and brother-in-law, Helen Sexton (Billy).

Survivors include her son, Todd McClure; son-in-law, Steve Irvin; grandchildren and spouses, Stacey McClure (Leslie), Olivia Whitfield (Shane), and Jared McDougle (Haleigh); great grandchildren, Ian Abernathy, Aubrey McClure, Jase McDougle, Dani Whitfield, and Natalie Whitfield; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are 2 pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & McEntire, with Rev. Fletcher Law officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Holiness Church Cemetery with Rev. Bobby Griffin officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Tuesday, and from 12 noon until the service hour on Wednesday, at the funeral home.

A special thanks from the family to all the staff of Ashton Senior Living and to Walter Kalenik at One Stop Physical Therapy, for their care of and dedication to Laverne during her recent illness.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lula Methodist Church, P.O. Box 439, Lula, Georgia 30554.
